BRUSSELS, April 17th 2018 – We are pleased to share with you some exciting news about the European Food Banks Federation. We have a long and important history. This year is a turning point: many new challenges ahead require new beginnings. We are convinced that this newsletter will bring new enthusiasm and commitment to our daily activity in the knowledge that our identity will become even stronger.
The European Food Banks Federation moves closer to the European institutions
We are pleased to announce that the European Food Banks Federation moved its main office to Brussels, Belgium.
This is a milestone for our organization and members. In this challenging and exciting period, among the activities carried out, the dialogue with the European institutions and stakeholders is becoming increasingly important and therefore we are willing to share our experience and play a significant role. Our new office should be the place to discuss and define the future of the European Food Banks together with our members and partners.

Besides our other activities, it clearly demonstrates our commitment to all persons residing in Europe and the desire to professionally support the growth and development of our members, through the contacts with businesses, civil society organizations and the European institutions” said Jacques Vandenschrik, President of the European Food Banks Federation. “In line with the objectives of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the priorities of the European Union, we believe that our actions can significantly contribute to current and future challenges, such as the prevention of food waste through the recovery and safe redistribution of surplus food and the help provided to persons in food poverty situations”.
European Food Banks Federation announces new Secretary General
We are also p
leased to announce the appointment of Angela Frigo as new Secretary General.
Jacques Vandenschrik, President of the European Food Banks Federation, said: “Angela has an extensive experience in food banking and a thorough knowledge about the European Union. In addition, she has demonstrated her ability to understand the issues at stake and to find innovative approaches to achieve the goals, with intelligence, passion and creativity. She also has a strong spirit of collaboration. We welcome her at the European Food Banks Federation and we are sure that our members and partners will support and assist her in this new challenge.”
“It is a privilege to join the European Food Banks Federation and work to strengthen and expand its network. I look forward to meeting all our members and getting to know them better with the aim of strengthening our ties and develop food banking. My wish is to make the EU closer to our members and our members better realize the added value of belonging to a network such as ours.” said Angela Frigo.
Prior to joining the European Food Banks Federation, Angela Frigo worked as EU and International Liaison Officer at Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus. Since 2010 she has been working in the EU field dealing with food, agriculture and social affairs. She holds an Executive Master in European Union Studies from Université Libre de Bruxelles and a Master Degree in Comparative Languages and Literatures from Università di Verona. She is native Italian, fluent in English, Spanish and French.
Angela Frigo takes over the position from Patrick Alix, who will continue to provide his valuable expertise to the European Food Banks Federation as network development coordinator, strengthening and advising our members in areas of need
