FEBA Member FoodCloud Growers’ Project has received €165,000 from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine under the Rural Innovation and Development Fund. This funding will help them expand their efforts to reduce food waste and support communities across Ireland.
The project will redistribute over 150 tonnes of surplus produce from growers to more than 180 community and volunteer organisations via Food Cloud hubs in Dublin, Galway, and Cork. This initiative addresses farm-level food waste and provides support.
Minister Charlie McConalogue highlighted Ireland’s commitment to tackling food waste through national policies and strategies like Food Vision 2030 and the Food Waste Prevention Road Map. He stated, “Food waste reduction initiatives will further enhance the work previously funded to identify, target and address what is a rapidly growing issue not just here in Ireland but globally.”
