A special delivery of 40,000 litres of long-life milk has been made to Food Banks Netherlands. In the coming weeks, thousands of families will receive this much-needed product. This delivery was made possible by a subsidy from the European Social Fund (ESF) and marks a significant milestone in the project that Food Banks Netherlands is spearheading.
This is the first of many deliveries to follow, featuring essential food and care products. The ESF has allocated €17.5 million over the coming years to enrich food packages with high-demand items that are not always readily available, such as pasta, chicken ragout, sunflower oil, and toothpaste. Food Banks Netherlands collaborates with the Food Safety Net Foundation to make this possible.
“This is an important moment for all of us,” said Henk Slaghouwer, Chairman of Food Banks Netherlands. “Retailers and food manufacturers are getting smarter and better at reducing food waste, which is a very positive development for sustainability. At the same time, we must also organise alternative food supplies to continue supporting people in need. The ESF donation is a crucial resource to help us keep providing assistance in the future.”
The milk will be distributed to food banks across the regions in the coming days, ensuring it quickly reaches those who need it most.
