16 participants from 12 countries joined the online session of the FEBA EU Working Group on 5 July 2022.
During the 6th meeting of the year, a variety of topics have been discussed.
In light of the Sustainable food system framework initiative, DG SANTE (European Commission) launched a public consultation whose content was shared with the Food Bank representatives. In addition to that, a survey published by the European Commission in the run-up to the revision of the Waste Framework Directive was explained. Supported by its members, FEBA will respond to both consultations in order to advocate for the interests of Food Banks across Europe.
This was followed by the topic of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste where the Hungarian Food Bank Association made an intervention on “Voluntary agreements in practice” and shared this input also with the FEBA EU Working Group. In light of this, the call for applications by the European Commission & European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) ‘Grants for stakeholders to improve measurement of food waste and help implement food waste prevention in their operations and organisations’ was also mentioned. FEBA informed the participants further on the agenda topics addressed during the meeting of the subgroup on Food Donation on 12 July 2022, which it will co-chair together with DG SANTE.
The session was closed with an interactive discussion on the various national legislative processes and updates from the different EU Member States for the long-term project of pooling and sharing more knowledge on this.
Last but not least, FEBA shared the calendar for the period July-August 2022, giving a concise overview on the activities scheduled, the tasks FEBA will carry out, including the related opportunities for member organisations.
The next meeting of the FEBA EU Working will be held on 6 September 2022, with the idea to invite the FEBA Working Group for an in-person gathering in Brussels.
