FareShare marked its 30th anniversary at the Houses of Parliament, coinciding with the historic Autumn Budget announcement.
The event featured a speech by the Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs, Daniel Zeichner MP, who reflected on his visit to FareShare South West’s Bristol warehouse in August. He highlighted the significant impact FareShare is making in tackling food waste.
On Budget day, FareShare had hoped for further updates from the Government regarding the £15 million Farm Gate Food Waste Fund announced earlier this year. While no formal announcement was made, the organisation found it encouraging that increased funding was allocated to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. FareShare expressed its commitment to working with parliamentary colleagues to ensure that some of this funding helps redirect surplus food to those in need rather than allowing it to go to waste.
As FareShare reflects on three decades of progress, it reaffirms its mission to tackle food poverty and reduce the environmental damage caused by food waste—a shared goal achievable through collaboration between the charity sector, farmers, and the Government.
