From 17 to 20 September, a delegation from Banca de Alimente visited Fondazione Banco Alimentare ONLUS. The activity was supported by the Partnerships for Inclusive and Sustainable Canteen Services project, which is funded by the European Union. Along with the members of the Food Bank’s team, the delegation included representatives of government authorities, the business sector in the Republic of Moldova, as well as project partners.
Oleg Paraschiv, Director of Banca de Alimente said: “During the visit, we had meetings with several specialists directly involved in the process of preventing food waste in Italy. We met with both representatives of public authorities and non-profit organisations with experience in the field. We have also become familiar with good practice models that have an impact on preventing food waste and loss. We are sure that this approach will facilitate the elaboration of the related normative framework of the Law on the Prevention of Loss and Food Waste entered into force in the Republic of Moldova on 25 May 2023.”
The first meetings of the visit allowed the participants to study the fiscal regulatory mechanism for the prevention of food losses and waste: from the perspective of public authorities and a practical implementation perspective, thanks to the visit to Banco Alimentare del Lazio ODV.
The next day, the delegation became familiar with the Siticibo programme. This is an activity that involves the recovery of cooked food, but also of pastries perfectly intact and not served in school canteens or companies, hotels, and restaurants. Thanks to an experienced logistics network and volunteer teams, they are redistributed in social services to feed people in need.
The project team reported on the aspects related to hygiene and food safety and well as the legislative framework of such an initiative and the implementation course. During the Siticibo tours, they went through the food recovery and distribution route together, visiting a store and a social canteen.
On the third day of the visit, the delegation met with Antonio Sorice, Director of the Veterinary Department, at the Bergamo Health Protection Agency. The subject of the meeting was related to the hygienic-sanitary norms regarding food donation.
The organisation of this visit was supported by European Union in the Republic of Moldova within the Partnerships for social canteen services project co-financed and implemented by AO CONCORDIA Social Projects Moldova, Keystone Moldova, and Social Mission “Diaconia”.
