On 11-12 October, the 37th Food Collection was carried out by the Lithuanian Food Bank “Maisto bankas”. During this event, people in Lithuania donated 274 000 food products worth more than 400 000 euros. Most of the donations were of pasta and groats. 244 other NGOs participated in the “Maisto bankas” food collection, and more than 7000 volunteers helped collect food in 70 cities and towns and 405 shops across Lithuania.
Last year, 11.1% of the Lithuanian population was unable to afford a full meal. This year’s survey shows that 14.3% of the population lacked money for food, and one in three of those on the lowest incomes faced challenges in feeding themselves. This is a significant increase compared to the previous year, therefore this food collection was very important.
