At the end of February, Maisto bankas (FEBA Member in Lithuania) started a communication campaign focussing on the issue of food waste.
Entitled “Don’t Feed the Trash Bins”, it aims to raise awareness and educate about the importance of preventing good food from ending up in landfills. According to Eurostat (2020), households are the stage of the food chain where the highest quantities of food waste occur. Taking this into account, the campaign further strives to inspire Lithuanians to reduce the amount they are discarding.
Pursuing these goals, Maisto bankas created a special website as a one-stop-shop including all relevant information about food waste: from statistics on Lithuania and the global perspective to best-practice tips and media items, such as films and books on the subject. With the website receiving much attention, the project can already be considered a great success.
