Fostering the direct participatory involvement of European citizens in the definition of EU policy and legislative initiatives, and thereby follow up on demands voiced during the Conference on the Future of Europe that took place in spring 2022, a second session on the topic of food waste in the series of Citizens’ Panels was held online on 20-22 January 2023.
Working together in 12 groups, attending citizens consolidated ideas related to to three different topics: ‘Cooperation in the food value chain: From farm to fork’, ‘Food business initiatives’, and ‘Supporting consumer behavioural change’. The debates will be concluded during the closing session in Brussels on 10-12 February 2023, which envisages as outcome concrete recommendations that will be included in the package accompanying the legislative proposal of setting EU food waste reduction targets.
