Nearly expired Lidl products raise over €300,000 for Belgian Food

Lidl responded to the high demand for help from Belgian Food Banks by donating the profits from its Good Taste, Zero Waste project for a total amount of 302,673 euros to Fédération Belge des Banques Alimentaires / Belgische Federatie van Voedselbanken.

The donation is timely as Food Banks are seeing an increase in the number of people requesting food parcels. Lidl’s donation comes entirely from the Good Taste, Zero Waste programme, a project set up two years ago by the supermarkets in Belgium to sell products approaching their use-by date at rock-bottom prices in order to limit food waste. In the past year, the scheme has prevented the loss of 2,700,000 nearly expired products and 1,600 tonnes of food waste at Lidl.
